Step-by-Step Guide

How to Create Your Free Will Online

Creating a Will is one of the most important things you can do for your family, yet it's often delayed due to fears of high legal costs, confusing paperwork, and conflicting advice. WillPatra makes it accessible to everyone — completely free, without leaving your home.

01

Securely Create Your Account

Getting started takes just seconds.

Head to WillPatra.com and sign up using your email address or phone number. You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) to verify your identity.

Enter basic details like your name and religion. Succession laws can vary based on religion, so this helps tailor the document accurately to your personal situation.

02

Choose Your Path

Your personalized dashboard puts you in control.

Once you land on your dashboard, you will see three options:

  • Create Your Free SmartWill (DIY): A simple, secure, step-by-step builder.
  • Upload Existing Will: For those who already have a Will but want WillPatra's digital visibility and notification features.
  • SmartWill Assistance (Paid): For users with complex estates who want expert, human guidance.

For this guide, we will proceed with the Free SmartWill option.

03

Enter Personal & Beneficiary Details

To ensure your Will is legally binding, accuracy is key.

Personal Details: Fill in your name exactly as it appears on official government IDs (Aadhaar, PAN, or Passport).

Add Beneficiaries: These are the individuals (family, friends) or organizations (trusts, NGOs) who will receive your assets.

⭐ The WillPatra Advantage

You can name up to three levels of backup beneficiaries. This crucial safety net ensures your wealth remains protected even if your primary choice is unable to receive it.

04

Catalog Your Assets

You cannot pass on what you haven't documented.

WillPatra makes it easy to separate and list everything you own:

  • Business Ownership: Sole proprietorships, LLPs, Private Limited companies, etc.
  • Personal Assets: Real estate, bank accounts, mutual funds, physical property (jewelry), and even intellectual property.

Tip: Be as specific as possible to prevent confusion for your loved ones later.

05

Distribute Your Wealth

Now, connect the dots.

You will assign the beneficiaries from Step 3 to the assets listed in Step 4. Allocate percentages or fixed amounts, and assign your Level 1 and Level 2 backup beneficiaries to each specific asset.

The Residual Clause: WillPatra automatically includes a Residual Clause—a catch-all for any future wealth you acquire or assets you accidentally left out, dictating exactly who receives those unlisted items.

06

Appoint Your Executor

The person you trust to carry out your wishes.

An Executor is the person (or organization) you trust to carry out the instructions in your Will. They will manage the paperwork, settle matters, and distribute your estate.

  • You can appoint a Single or Joint Executor.
  • You can even specify a remuneration amount to compensate them for their time and effort.
07

Add Special Clauses & Last Wishes

Your Will is highly customizable to your specific life situation.

WillPatra allows you to easily toggle on special provisions:

  • Pet Guardian Clause: Appoint someone to care for your beloved pets.
  • Organ & Body Donation: Legally document your wishes for medical donation.
  • Severability, No-Contest, and Disinheritance Clauses: Extra legal layers to prevent family disputes.
  • Funeral Rites: Leave clear, comforting instructions so your family doesn't have to guess.
08

Add Witnesses & Record a Video Declaration

Making the document legally valid.

To make the document legally valid, you must add the details of two witnesses. Their information is stored securely on the platform.

⭐ The WillPatra Advantage

Before finalizing, you have the option to record a Video Declaration directly from your webcam or phone. This visual proof drastically reduces the chance of your Will being contested in court.

09

Receive, Sign, and Upload

You're almost done!

Choose to receive your drafted Will via email or phone. Download the PDF and review it carefully.

Make it Legal: Print it out and sign it in the physical presence of your two witnesses. You can also choose to notarize or register it with local authorities for maximum protection.

Upload it back to WillPatra: Return to your dashboard and upload the scanned, signed copy for safekeeping. You can also note exactly where the physical hard copy is stored.

10

Notify Your Stakeholders

A Will is useless if no one knows it exists.

As your final step, use WillPatra to automatically notify your Executors and Beneficiaries via Email or SMS.

They will receive an alert that the Will has been executed, giving them peace of mind without revealing the private contents of the document until the time is right.
