Frequently Asked Questions

How Account Access Works

Clear answers to guide eligible individuals through the access process.

Only individuals the testator has selectedβ€”such as primary or back-up executors, guardians, beneficiaries, or pet guardians. Access is strictly limited to those the testator has explicitly granted account accessibility privileges to.

Access is view-only. Information cannot be edited or changed in any way. This ensures the testator's records remain exactly as intended, preserving the integrity of their final wishes.

Access may be requested after the testator's passing, and only to the people the testator has provided account accessibility privileges to. No access can be initiated while the testator is living.

Eligible individuals can request access through:

  • A common β€œGet Account Access” link on the WillPatra Platform, or
  • Through their own WillPatra account dashboard, where they are shown as a named role (e.g., Executor, Beneficiary).

Three layers of verification are required:

  • A death certificate of the deceased testator must be uploaded. WillPatra verifies it using the embedded QR code and requests confirmation from other selected individuals through notifications.
  • Government-issued ID of the requesting individual (Aadhaar, Passport, PAN, or Driver's Licence).
  • A short video confirmation by the individual stating that the information provided is accurate.

Once verification is complete, access is granted when at least two out of five selected individuals confirm (or three or more if more than five are selected). This multi-party confirmation safeguards against unauthorized access.

Access is available for one year from the date it is granted, after which it is automatically removed. The testator's records are securely retained by WillPatra beyond that period.

WillPatra makes it mandatory for the testator to grant account accessibility to the primary executor. If the primary executor predeceases the testator or is unable or unwilling to act, account access will be made available to the back-up executor for a fee. The fee covers the manual verification procedures required in such circumstances.
